Many folks ask us the difference between a fullblood American Blues and a purebred American Blues. A fullblood is 100% of the American Blues breeding that was developed in Belgium. A purebred is an animal that has been bred up from another breed with a high percentage of American Blues breeding. The American Bluess recognize a purebred in females as an animal that is at least 7/8 American Blues and above in her genetic makeup. In bulls it is recognized at 15/16 American Blues breeding and above in his genetic makeup. Here at MNP Farm we have worked on both purebred and fullblood genetics. We have worked on a purebred program to increase the hybrid vigor and to keep the characteristics of the American Blues breed. We also breed halfbloods and other percentages for show calves. The breed has a lot to offer the cattle industry in crossbreeding programs which is where the majority of the cattle breeding markets are directed. Thank you for your interest in our program.
